Introduction

Cyanotic heart disease is the other subdivision of congenital heart disease. They result due to mixed de/oxygenated blood in the systemic circulation or when deoxygenated blood bypasses the pulmonary circulation into the systemic circulation. The occurrence is usually sporadic but may be associated with genetic syndromes including trisomy 21, 13, 18,  and Turner syndrome. Environmental risk factors include maternal exposure to drugs/toxins and viral infections during pregnancy. The most commonly occurring congenital cyanotic heart condition is Tetralogy of Fallot, accounting for 7-10% of cyanotic heart disease.
