Management
Hormone replacement therapy is the mainstay of treatment for hypogonadism. Treatment should be individualised to the patient, specific to the underlying aetiology and should take a holistic approach with consideration of psychosocial implications. As well as the physiological development of secondary sexual characteristics and fertility if desired, the main aim for treatment is to prevent long-term complications of low oestrogen, such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
