Distal tubules
A small amount of sodium is reabsorbed in the distal convoluted tubule by Na+/Cl- cotransporters. The distal convoluted tubules are affected by aldosterone. It is also permeable towards calcium and allows calcium reabsorption in response to parathyroid hormone.
Thiazide diuretics compete for chloride binding sites on these cotransporters.
