Clinical evaluation
Most fibroids are asymptomatic and are discovered as incidental findings. Symptomatic fibroids may present with the following: (1) menorrhagia; (2) dysmenorrhoea; (3) dyspareunia; (4) abdominal bloating or discomfort; (5) lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS); (6) recurrent UTIs; (7) constipation or painful defaecation; (8) subfertility or recurrent miscarriage. Patients may present with features of the complications of fibroids, such as iron deficiency anaemia (fatigue, exertional breathlessness) or, more rarely, hydronephrosis (dysuria, flank pain, oligo-anuria).
