Introduction
Sleep-related breathing disorders are common and often unrecognised. It is estimated that 9% of women and 24% of men have some form of sleep-disordered breathing. The disorders are associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality and have been especially linked with cardiovascular and metabolic complications. In addition, these disorders have significant social consequences, with effects on executive function, changes to behaviour and excessive daytime sleepiness.
