A 34-year-old woman presents to the maternity assessment unit. She has not had any antenatal care and is quickly assessed to be in active labour with foetal distress. An emergency C-section is performed. Within 24 hours, the baby develops neonatal jaundice and is found to have hepatosplenomegaly. A referral for inpatient review by a paediatric ophthalmologist is requested, who finds evidence of chorioretinitis.
