A 43 year old immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo presents to the eye clinic with a worsening vision for the past 6 months. He also complains of widespread itchiness and “bumps” all across his limbs. On examination, his visual acuity is 6/60 bilaterally, and there are widespread erythematous subcutaneous nodules across his skin. Skin snips are taken, which reveal microfilariae.
