A 45-year-old gardener has presented to the emergency department with an open wound.

A 45-year-old gardener has presented to the emergency department with an open wound. She had been working in her garden and accidentally caught a nail in the ground. She did not notice if there was significant rust on the nail. The wound was not overtly contaminated with soil then and was washed off fairly quickly. The wound appears to be a puncture wound along the palm of her hand that has broken through the skin.

She had completed her primary vaccination course as a child and has not had any vaccinations for the past 30 years apart from her flu vaccines.
