A 50-year-old woman presents with yellowing of the eyes and fatigue. The fatigue has been present for several years, and she had put it down to “getting older”. The yellowing of her eyes is much more recent and prompted her to seek medical attention. She denies any alcohol intake, is a non-smoker and does not use any recreational drugs.
Her blood tests show an elevated bilirubin and a cholestatic pattern. Transient elastography is suggestive of liver cirrhosis. You suspect she may have PBC
