A 60-year-old gentleman presents to ambulatory care with a swollen left calf. He has been referred by his GP for a possible deep vein thrombosis. He underwent a total knee replacement (TKR) 6 months ago for his leg but has no other significant past medical history. The patient reports that his leg has been painful ever since he had his TKR, and the left leg is slightly larger than the right leg. On examination, his left calf is larger than his right by >3cm, and he is tender to touch over the TKR scar. There is no redness or warmth of the leg. His observations are normal.
