An 18-year-old woman with no medical issues is rushed into the emergency department (ED) following an acute onset of symptoms whilst eating a nut cereal bar. She has an audible wheeze, swelling of her tongue and lips and has a widespread rash.
She is given a dose of IM adrenaline in ED, and her symptoms resolve rapidly. The likely diagnosis is explained, and she is given a follow up appointment and adrenaline auto-injectors
After what period of observation from the initial reaction would it be appropriate to discharge this patient?
