You have started a nightshift and your colleague has handed over to review a 37 year old female patient in the Emergency Department who was admitted that morning. The patient has suffered an anaphylactic reaction to penicillin, having taken amoxicillin tablets for a sore throat that had been prescribed for their partner for a separate infection. She has a known penicillin allergy with a history of anaphylaxis requiring previous invasive ventilation and prolonged critical care admission. She has not been seen in an allergy clinic for over five years.
On this admission, she required two doses of IM adrenaline. She has since been stable in the department and is keen to go home. On review, her blood pressure is 128/74 mmHg, heart rate is 84 bpm, respiratory rate is 14 breaths per minute and temperature is 37.0ᵒ C. She is walking around the department independently.
