Epidemiology of lung cancer

Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK. Risk factors are a mixture of non-modifiable – primarily age – and modifiable – primarily smoking (active and passive), exposure to occupational chemicals (asbestos, more rarely radon gas), and exposure to ionising radiation. A majority of cases are linked to smoking and considered largely preventable.
