Medication overuse headache

Medication overuse headache occurs in patients with a pre-existing headache disorder who overuse analgesia on a regular basis. It presents as a change in their usual headache. Patients will report having a headache most days (at least 15 days/month). It should be considered in those who regularly take paracetamol, aspirin, NSAIDs, triptans, opioids or ergots. The treatment is to stop the overused medications.
