A 16-year-old boy attends the breast clinic with his mother, having been referred by his GP. He complains of a 6-month history of enlarged breasts bilaterally, with overlying tenderness during periods of strenuous activity. His mother states that he has become increasingly self-conscious, so much so that he no longer engages in his usual extracurricular activities at school. No other symptoms are reported. Clinical examination reveals bilateral breast enlargement. Neck and testicular examination are normal. What would be the most appropriate management?
