A 19-year-old man is referred to clinic after a long history of problems with his ankles with multiple fractures. He states he has repeatedly “gone over” on his ankles and has fractured his left ankle twice and his right five times. He has also noticed that his feet feel numb. On examination, he has weakness and atrophy of the muscles of the lower leg, reduced sensation, particularly in proprioception and vibration, and you are unable to elicit any reflexes. His left foot has a very high arch, while his right foot has a collapsed arch with extensive bony remodelling. The rest of the examination is normal. He states that his father suffered from similar problems. What is the likely diagnosis?
