A 19-year-old man is referred to your clinic due to muscle weakness. Throughout his childhood, he had problems playing sports at school, often lagging well behind his peers in classes. He lives a sedentary life and finds it difficult to run at all which he attributed to being unfit. Recently, he went to see his GP because he has been finding it more and more difficult to walk upstairs and has noticed he is finding it challenging rising from a chair. His GP ran some tests and found a severely elevated CK level so referred him to your clinic. On examination, you find that he has proximal weakness in a limb girdle pattern.
