A 32-year-old man presents with weakness in his left hand. Last night, he was up late working

A 32-year-old man presents with weakness in his left hand. Last night, he was up late working on a report for work and when he woke this morning noted that his hand seemed weak. On examination, his grip strength is diminished on the left and Froment’s sign is positive. He has numbness over the hypothenar eminence, his little finger, and the medial border of his fourth finger. He has had these symptoms before and finds they generally resolve over the following days to weeks. On further questioning, he mentions that he practises yoga regularly and occasionally gets injuries following sessions which leave his ankle feeling weak and he finds he scuffs his foot on the floor and often trips. What might be the cause of his symptoms?
