A 50-year-old man who was diagnosed with tension type headaches 3 years ago has been struggling to manage his symptoms. Since his diagnosis, he has experienced headaches approximately 20 days per month. He takes a dose of paracetamol or ibuprofen about once every 3 days, when the pain is really bad, however he does not want to take it more often as he has been warned about the risk of medication overuse headaches. He has a past medical history of cholecystitis 10 years ago and impaired glucose tolerance. He would like to know if there are any prophylactic medical treatments available.
