A 60-year-old man with a background of metastatic prostate cancer has deteriorated over the last week. He was admitted for a chest infection, which has resolved, but he has now become weaker and is spending more time in bed. The nurses report that since last night he has seemed agitated and in pain but was struggling to take the oral morphine that had been prescribed. The palliative care team have reviewed him and have asked you to write up a syringe driver with morphine in it.
You look at his drug chart and find he has been on 10 mg BD of MST and has had 4 PRN doses of 2.5 mg oramorph. Calculate the appropriate dose for the syringe driver.
