You are reviewing a patient in the haematology clinic who has been referred by her GP

You are reviewing a patient in the haematology clinic who has been referred by her GP with a diagnosis of suspected chronic myeloid leukaemia. Her initial presentation was abdominal fullness with early satiety. She was found to have marked splenomegaly. Blood tests and blood film were consistent with CML. Cytogenetic analysis is awaited for confirmation of diagnosis.

Prior to starting chemotherapy is there any intervention available to help her symptoms?
