A 39-year-old male visits his general practitioner, complaining of a painful right elbow. He works as a construction worker and plays tennis at the weekend and has noticed the pain more predominantly during these activities. He has no history of trauma and describes the pain as having come on gradually. On examination, his grip strength in his right hand is reduced in comparison to the left, and there is pain on resisted wrist and digit extension. He is tender on palpation of the lateral epicondyle of the elbow. He does not complain of any further symptoms. What investigations would be indicated to diagnose his complaint?
