A 17-year-old male presents to A&E with a 3-hour history of severe left scrotal and lower abdominal pain. He has vomited 3 times since arriving at A&E, but his observations are stable, and he is afebrile. On examination, the scrotum is swollen, erythematous and the testicle is high riding. It is tender on palpation, no masses can be felt, and the cremasteric reflex is absent. The A&E doctor suspects testicular torsion and makes an urgent referral to the urology team. The doctor then prescribes analgesia and an antiemetic to make the patient more comfortable.
What form of analgesia would be most appropriate?
