A 20-year-old man has been referred to neurology

A 20-year-old man has been referred to neurology. During the past two weeks he has had three episodes of “fits”. He brings with him a video recorded by his mum of these episodes. On viewing the footage, he is seen to be sitting on the sofa, then sliding to the floor with all four limbs demonstrating rigid posturing before beginning to rhythmically jerk. His eyes are open during this episode and teeth clenched. After around a minute the movement abates, and he is seen to be dazed following it, struggling to answer the questions of his mum who is filming. The patient tells you that before these episodes, he feels light-headed, but cannot recall the actual event. All three episodes have followed this pattern.
