A 20-year-old woman attends a GP appointment

A 20-year-old woman attends a GP appointment. Over the past year, she has been struggling with feeling constantly worried and “on edge”. She says that she worries about “silly things” and struggles to sleep at night due to her mind racing with apprehension for the next day – often staying up into the early hours because of this. She can think of no particular trigger for these feelings and finds that she can have episodes at any time of day where she feels her heart racing and hot, sweaty and shaky – and this generally occurs when she is worrying the most. Although she is worried that she has lost around a stone in weight over the past three months, her health is generally good.
