A 22-year-old woman attends the GP

A 22-year-old woman attends the GP. She reports that on several occasions over the past two weeks she has episodes of feeling extremely anxious, and during these episodes struggles to control her breathing, feels sweaty and nauseous, and can feel her heart racing. These episodes last for a few minutes. They have happened when she has been out in public, but also at work, and once whilst she was driving – she had to pull over her car, and it was following this episode that she decided to seek medical help. She cannot think of anything which may be causing this and feels entirely well when not having these episodes.
