A 29-year-old woman presents to the A&E with facial weakness that suddenly occurred 4 hours ago. She is 29 weeks pregnant and is well. On examination, you notice that the left corner of her mouth droops and she has lost the nasolabial fold on the left side. The drooping becomes more pronounced when she tries to smile. She is unable to lift her left eyebrow, and there is loss of forehead wrinkles on the left side. She also mentions that she is having some left ear pain and has found listening to the car radio exacerbates this even though she normally does this on her way to work. There are no abnormal findings on-ear examination.
