A 32-year old woman presents with a headache

A 32-year old woman presents with a headache. She describes a severe left-sided throbbing pain, which has been constant for two days. The pain began gradually over the course of several hours, and she recalls seeing some white dots in her vision when the headache first began. She has also been feeling nauseous, and has spent most of the past two days in bed, as light and noise make the headache worse. Her medical and drug history is unremarkable, aside from having recently started the combined oral contraceptive pill.
