A 34-year-old pregnant woman attends to see her GP after her antenatal dating scan. She mentions recently she has noticed a patch of pigmented skin on her face, just above her upper lip and right cheek. It has not changed in size and is not itchy, red or painful. However, she finds it rather unsightly and wants to know what it is and what can be done about it. The GP gives her some general advice on management options and advises her to avoid being in the sun for too long and to use sunscreen.
