A 45-year old woman complains of a two-day history of lesions covering her tongue and gums
A 45-year old woman complains of a two-day history of lesions covering her tongue and gums. On examination there are extensive white patches covering the oral cavity – some of these patches appear to have peeled off, leaving raw areas underneath. These lesions appeared quite suddenly, two days ago, and the patient has not experienced anything like this before. The patient has a history of type 2 diabetes, for which she takes metformin and gliclazide. She has recently been prescribed a seven-day course of amoxicillin for an infective exacerbation of COPD and is on day four of this course.
