A 52-year-old man with a history of epilepsy is brought to A&E by ambulance

A 52-year-old man with a history of epilepsy is brought to A&E by ambulance, currently having a seizure which has lasted approximately 30 minutes. He normally takes sodium valproate for seizure control. Rectal diazepam has been administered to no effect. The patient is taken to resus, where a nasotracheal airway is sited, high-flow oxygen started, and IV access established. Two boluses of lorazepam are given, to little effect. The anaesthetics team have been fast-bleeped.
