A 53-year-old man has been referred from his GP

A 53-year-old man has been referred from his GP. He was diagnosed with hypertension around one year ago, and despite trying several different antihypertensive medications, and combination treatment, his blood pressure remains poorly controlled. His past medical history includes angina and high cholesterol. He has no family history of hypertension. The GP is concerned about a secondary cause of hypertension and arranged some basic blood tests and hormone profiles, all of which were normal. The patient states he feels physically fine, and has not noticed any changes to his health during the past year.
