A 54-year-old man attends A&E, complaining of a severe headache and a painful red right eye

A 54-year-old man attends A&E, complaining of a severe headache and a painful red right eye. He feels nauseous and vomited roughly an hour previously. He has a background of type 2 diabetes, for which he takes metformin and gliclazide. On initial inspection, the affected eye has a reddened sclera, and visual acuity is reduced compared to the left eye. Fundoscopy is performed, which shows optic disc cupping.
