A 58-year-old man with a background of prostate cancer attends A&E with sudden onset lower back pain radiating to his leg, which began yesterday and kept him awake most of the night. He is embarrassed to tell you that when he woke up this morning – after finally falling asleep – he had lost control of his bladder. He has not passed urine since.
