A 59-year-old male presents with a 4 week history of abdominal pain and fatigue

A 59-year-old male presents with a 4 week history of abdominal pain and fatigue. On questioning, he admits to some weight loss over this period of time but is unable to quantify how much. He had his flexi-sigmoidoscopy test when he was 55 years old with clear results. On examination there is nothing to be found. He had a blood test one month ago for a work medical, and it showed an Hb of 109 (normal range 130-180). He is otherwise fit and well, and takes no regular medications. He has no family history of bowel pathology. He smokes 8 cigarettes a day, has a poor diet and drinks 15 units of alcohol a week.
