A 6 year old boy is brought to see you because his mother is worried about his walking. She has noticed that he tends to walk on his toes, and she thinks he is falling over more than she remembers his sister doing at this age. During the consultation the boy attempts to stand up from sitting and he pushes on his legs to bring himself up, you also notice that he has quite large calves. On examination the boy has reduced muscle tone.
