A 6-Year-old boy with a history of eczema and asthma has come into the surgery with his mother for his annual asthma review

A 6-Year-old boy with a history of eczema and asthma has come into the surgery with his mother for his annual asthma review. He currently takes a salbutamol blue inhaler (short-acting beta agonist), and a very low dose inhaled corticosteroid, both while using a spacer device. His mother comments that she has been using the blue inhaler more frequently in the last 3 months to around 6 times a week. She is concerned that his asthma is getting worse and finds it very hard to use the spacer device. You consider these factors and recommend a new medication to help control his asthma.

What medication could you offer?
