A 67-year old man presents with intense, severe pain in his right shoulder and left wrist
A 67-year old man presents with intense, severe pain in his right shoulder and left wrist. This is the second time he has experienced this pain, the first occurrence involved his right knee and the incident was self-limiting. He is usually fit and well and does not suffer from any medical conditions. Physical examination reveals a tender, swollen, warm right shoulder and left wrist joint with reduced range of movements. He has mild pyrexia and tachycardia but no other abnormalities on basic observations. X-rays of the joints reveal chondrocalcinosis.
