A 68-year-old woman attends A&E, complaining of a painful right eye

A 68-year-old woman attends A&E, complaining of a painful right eye. This came on a couple of hours ago, and she also has a headache and feels sick – saying she “feels rotten”. Her temples feel sore to the touch, and she keeps rubbing them. She also reports that when she looks into the light, “strange rings” surround it – she has a history of migraines, but they are never this bad. On examination, her right eye is visibly reddened, and the pupil of that eye is abnormal.
