A 70-year-old man, who is normally fit and well, is brought to his GP by his children who are worried about his memory. He lives alone and previously coped well. However, over the last 6 months he is finding it difficult to cope and has become more irritable. He is forgetting to pay bills and has forgotten important dates like his own birthday. Last week, he left rice on the stove and forgot, which would have been catastrophic if his daughter had not visited him that day. The patient’s sister had similar problems and had to be relocated to a nursing home for her own safety.
