A patient in his late teens is seen in clinic due to poor compliance with his Insulin regimen

A patient in his late teens is seen in clinic due to poor compliance with his Insulin regimen. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in his early childhood and has had frequent admissions to hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis. He states that he forgets to take his insulin or feels so low in mood that he thinks it is pointless to take it. Following discussion, his regimen is changed to a twice-daily mixed insulin, in the hope that he will find this easier to manage.
