Lisa is a 23-year-old medical student who has come to see her GP as she has been feeling fatigued over the last couple of months. She has also mentioned that her friends keep telling her that she’s looking pale. Normally she is fit and well and does not report any particular change in lifestyle. As part of her investigations, you perform a full blood count which demonstrates microcytic anaemia. The lab also mentions that on the peripheral smear, her red blood cells were hypochromic.
