Tom, a 7-year-old boy, is brought to the clinic by his concerned mother
Tom, a 7-year-old boy, is brought to the clinic by his concerned mother. Tom has recently had a week’s history of coryzal symptoms and feeling generally unwell. After this, his mother noticed he had small pinprick (1-2mm) red spots across his chests. Currently, Tom is feeling perfectly well in himself, but his mother is concerned it could be meningitis. He has no headache, fever, or neck stiffness. His blood work came back normal except for an isolated low platelet count. All other routine screening, including a urine dip came back as negative.
