A 17-year-old girl presents with recurrent lower abdominal pain that is associated with her periods

A 17-year-old girl presents with recurrent lower abdominal pain that is associated with her periods. She is well between periods; however, it occurs almost every cycle, and she also reports occasional diarrhoea. One the first 3 days of her period, she usually requires four pads a day. There is no previous history of any sexually transmitted disease, and sexual activity is unaffected. Pelvic examination was largely unremarkable with no masses or tenderness.
