A 31-year-old male has a 6-week history of a right-sided testicular mass

A 31-year-old male has a 6-week history of a right-sided testicular mass. He had a left-sided orchiectomy at 26 for what was diagnosed as a seminoma. His GP is worried that he may have another seminoma now on the right testicle, as 5% of men who have had a germ cell tumour develop a second primary tumour on the contralateral testicle. He refers the patient to urology.

How would a definitive diagnosis of a seminoma be made?
