A 35-year-old woman presents to the GP surgery with concerns about some lumps

A 35-year-old woman presents to the GP surgery with concerns about some lumps she has noticed on her breasts. This is associated with pain and the patient describes it as a dull aching pain. She notes that it occurs just before her menses and ends right after her menses. It has occurred on 4 occasions and she had been putting off seeing a doctor as she was busy. She is worried that this might be breast cancer. On examination of the breasts, there is diffuse symmetrical ‘lumpiness’ on both breasts. There is no nipple discharge noted and no skin changes of the breasts.
