A 47-year-old man with a past medical history of sickle cell anaemia

A 47-year-old man with a past medical history of sickle cell anaemia, presents to his GP with a 2 week history of right upper quadrant pain. He has noticed that the pain is worse after eating particularly heavy meals, but it can develop at any time. The pain generally lasts for about half an hour at a time and increases in intensity. 

The GP thinks the most likely cause of these symptoms is gallstones.
