A 52-year-old man attends A&E, complaining of dizziness

A 52-year-old man attends A&E, complaining of dizziness. The symptoms have now resolved, but he has come to A&E as this is the fifth episode in the past two days and he is too concerned to wait for a GP appointment. They have been happening on and off for the past month, but have become a lot worse in these past two days. He describes a sensation of the “room spinning” with episodes lasting up to 10 minutes, which make him feel sick and faint. They seem to occur when he stands up from sitting or lying down. A lying and standing blood pressure is checked, which is normal.
