A 52-year-old man is in the high dependency surgical unit

A 52-year-old man is in the high dependency surgical unit, following microscopic excision of a right-sided acoustic neuroma. He complains that the left side of his face “feels funny”, and on examination has a noticeably downturned lip on the left side of his face, which remains downturned when he attempts to smile. He is asked to raise his eyebrows and is unable to elevate the left eyebrow.
