A 61-year-old woman who is immobile is seen by her district nurse for chronic pressure sores on both heels

A 61-year-old woman who is immobile is seen by her district nurse for chronic pressure sores on both heels. The district nurse is concerned because the pressure sore on her left heel has been leaking foul-smelling exudate for the past 2 months and has changed around the margins during this time. She calls for a GP home visit, and the GP refers the woman to secondary care for investigation. The woman has an incisional biopsy which confirms Marjolin’s Ulcer with squamous cell carcinoma histopathology.
